Receptive Vocabulary Food app for iPhone and iPad

This new SLP Tap-App will help children develop their receptive language skills by asking them to identify food items from a choice of two or three.

Instructions for Receptive Vocabulary – Food:

1.Tap on the icon for Receptive Vocabulary – Food

2.The landing page displays several choices:
a.The control for the animation rewards; if you would like an animation reward for each correct answer, simply leave the switch in the ‘on’ position; if not, slide the switch to ‘off’
b.The control for the animation sound; if you would like a sound to accompany each animation, simply leave the switch in the ‘on’ position; if not, slide the switch to ‘off’
c.The number of items to be displayed during the activity (two or three); simply tap on the desired icon

3.Once the ‘number of items’ icon has been tapped, the app begins

4.The child is asked “Where is the…” or to “Point to the…”, or to “Find the…” food item.

5.If the child taps the correct item, he/she is rewarded with verbal praise and an animated reward and sound (if chosen in step 2)

6.If the child taps the incorrect item, he/she is told “Oops, try again!”

7.If the child is incorrect twice on the same item, the correct item is highlighted and the child is told “HERE is the…” No animation accompanies this.

8.Once the child is finished with the activity (or at any time during the activity), you can tap on ‘Report’ at the top left-hand corner in order to determine the number and percentage of items the child has tapped correctly on the first attempt.

9.E-mail a copy of the results to yourself for record-keeping.

10.In order to continue the activity, simply press ‘Exit’ icon at the top right-hand corner of the results page.

11.To begin a new activity, simply press the ‘Exit’ icon at the top right-hand corner of the page.
